Denim Manufacturing Services for Brands & Startups
Denim manufacturing is one of the most technical and specialized segments of apparel production, requiring expertise in heavyweight fabric handling, precise construction techniques, and complex finishing processes. A quality pair of jeans demands perfect fit through the waist, hips, thighs, and legs, reinforced stitching at high-stress points, proper pocket construction, and professional finishing details like bartacks, rivets, and custom hardware.
Los Angeles has deep historical roots in premium denim manufacturing. Brands like Citizens of Humanity, AG Jeans, Paige Denim, and 7 For All Mankind all originated in LA because of the specialized denim expertise concentrated in the Fashion District.

Frequently Asked Questions - Denim Manufacturing
How much does it cost to manufacture jeans in Los Angeles?
Women’s stretch jeans cost $28-$38 per pair at 50-piece quantities for basic washes. Complex washes with distressing run $35-$48 per pair. Men’s raw denim costs $32-$45. Selvedge denim is significantly higher at $45-$65 due to premium fabric costs. This includes fabric, construction, hardware, and washing. Pattern making ($250-$400) and samples ($80-$180) are additional one-time costs.
How long does denim production take?
10-16 weeks from initial consultation to finished jeans. This includes pattern development (1-2 weeks), sampling and fit testing (2-4 weeks for 2-3 rounds), fabric sourcing (2-6 weeks depending on fabric type), production (3-4 weeks), and washing/finishing (2-4 weeks). Raw denim or simple washes are faster (10-12 weeks). Complex custom washes extend timeline (14-16 weeks).
Can you manufacture selvedge denim jeans?
Yes. We source Japanese selvedge denim from Okayama mills and domestic selvedge producers. Selvedge denim costs significantly more than standard denim due to limited production and narrower fabric width. Minimum order quantities remain the same (25 pieces), but per-unit costs are higher ($45-$65) and fabric lead times are longer (4-6 weeks). Selvedge detail is typically showcased on cuff turnups.
What custom wash options are available for denim?
We coordinate with LA wash houses for stone wash (tumbled with pumice stones for vintage look), enzyme wash (biochemical softening and fading), laser distressing (precise fade patterns), hand sanding (manual distressing), acid wash (bleached patterns), and various combinations. Custom wash development costs $300-$800 for initial sample testing. We create wash samples for approval before production washing.
Can you manufacture sustainable or organic cotton denim?
Yes. We source organic cotton denim, recycled denim blends, and BCI-certified sustainable denim. Sustainable denim costs 15-25% more than conventional denim but enables eco-friendly positioning increasingly demanded by premium denim customers. We also work with wash houses offering low-water washing processes and eco-friendly finishing techniques. Lead times for sustainable denim are slightly longer (4-6 weeks vs 2-3 weeks for standard denim).
