Swimwear Manufacturing Services for Brands & Startups

Swimwear manufacturing demands specialized expertise that most garment factories don’t possess. Technical swimwear fabrics require different cutting, sewing, and finishing techniques than standard apparel. Chlorine-resistant materials, four-way stretch, built-in shelf bras, lined crotches, and specialized elastic all require operators trained specifically in swimwear construction.

Los Angeles is home to the largest concentration of swimwear manufacturers in North America. We handle pattern making optimized for swim fit (tighter than standard apparel to account for water weight and stretch), sampling with proper linings and support structures, and production with specialized stitching techniques. Whether you’re launching a bikini brand, creating one-piece swimwear, or building a resort collection with coverups and beachwear, we manufacture swim products that perform in water and compete with established brands in quality and fit.

Frequently Asked Questions - Swimwear Manufacturing

What is the minimum order quantity for swimwear manufacturing?

Our minimum is 25 pieces per style per color. For bikini sets (top + bottom sold together), the minimum is 25 sets. If you’re launching a bikini top in black and a leopard print, that’s 25 of each pattern (50 total tops). Most swimwear brands start with 50-100 pieces per style to have adequate size distribution across XS-XL.

Bikini sets cost $24-$36 per set at 50-set quantities for complete top and bottom. Individual bikini tops run $14-$26 depending on complexity (simple triangle vs underwire with padding). Bikini bottoms cost $10-$16. This includes premium swim fabric, full lining, quality elastic binding, and construction. Italian fabrics and complex designs cost more. Pattern making ($200-$350) and samples ($60-$120) are additional one-time costs.

8-12 weeks from initial consultation to finished inventory. This includes swim-specific pattern making (1-2 weeks), sampling and fit testing (2-3 weeks for 2-3 rounds), fabric sourcing (1-2 weeks), and production (3-4 weeks). Timeline depends on fabric availability and complexity of designs. Rush production available for restocks or urgent launches.

Selling separates (individual tops and bottoms) increases average order value and accommodates customers who need different top/bottom sizes. Many women are different sizes on top vs bottom. Separates require clear size guidance and increase inventory complexity. Sets simplify inventory but limit customer flexibility. Most successful swim brands offer both core styles as separates, limited styles as sets only.

Yes. We specialize in plus-size swimwear pattern making and grading up to 6XL. Plus-size swim requires different pattern proportions, additional support structures, and extended sizing fit sessions. Shelf bras need reinforcement, coverage must be adequate, and fit must be tested on plus-size models. We work with fit models across size ranges and understand the specific requirements of extended sizing in swimwear.
